Proofing, Color Matching & Print Quality
Great Western Printing, Inc. does not guarantee color matching or ink density on jpg or pdf screen proofs. Screen proofs will predict text accuracy image proportion and placement, but not color or density. Because of differences in equipment, paper, inks and other conditions between color proofing and production pressroom operations, a reasonable variation in color and the completed job is to be expected. When variations of this nature occur, it will be considered acceptable performance.
A digital color proof is for reasonable likeness to the final printed piece. While a digital proof is 80% to 90% accurate to predict color, dot placement and screen pattern, a reasonable variation between the digital proof and the final printed piece is to be expected. When variations of this nature occur it will be considered acceptable. Press proofs are available at additional cost and terms.
Any press time lost or alterations made because of the customer’s delay or change of mind will be charged at Great Western Printing’s normal rate.
Please provide high-resolution images suited to the offset printing process. Great Western Printing is not liable for images printing as bitmaps caused by customer’s providing low-resolution images or incorrectly built files.
Customer must provide all 4-color printing images in CMYK format. Great Western Printing, Inc. is not responsible for any color shift that occurs in conversions from RGB to CMYK color modes.
Trapping is a design function. We will set trapping if we design your document or if requested on quotes to do it for you. Otherwise Great Western Printing will assume you have trapped the file correctly. Incorrect trapping will not be grounds for a re-do or cancellation unless we have set trapping.
Great Western Printing will respect gradient density of each color in duo-tones; we are not liable for the final appearance of the duo-tones unless a press proof is ordered.
NOTE: Text created in Photoshop may print pixilated or bitmapped. In such instances, Great Western Printing will not be held liable for bitmapped text. To avoid this problem it is best to use a program such as QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator or InDesign to create text. Ordering a digital proof will help predict if bitmapped text is a potential problem.
Full color jobs that contain large solid areas of black ink should have the black setup as CMYK black. Great Western Printing will not be liable for printing a consistent rich black solid if you have not set it up this way. Please call if not sure.
All reprint requests for either defective printing or insufficient quantity must be submitted in writing and within five (5) business days of receipt of merchandise.
Document Layout
The outer 1/8” edge of the artwork is considered to be the gutter, a “safety area” that is utilized for cutting. No important images or text should be placed within this area, although 1/8” is the minimum, we strongly recommend you use 5/16”.
Additional charges may be incurred on certain pieces if the lead edge safety area is not at least 5/16” (eg: letterhead, envelopes, postcards).
